FAQ’S

Below is a list of Frequently asked questions!

What is Canbrella’s main service?

Canbrella is an advocate for the homeowner. Our goal is to ensure that things run smoothly whether you are doing a small renovation, a major addition or building your dream home from the ground up. Canbrella’s goal is to facilitate , monitor and act as a mediator during the entire life of the project. We will work on your behalf to prevent issues arising from misunderstanding, miscommunication or misconception by both the homeowner and the contractor. Depending on the level of service you require Canbrella is your partner in a successful hassle free project. If you have already entered into an agreement with a contractor and discover that there are issues with workmanship, insurance and licensing or time management of your project, Canbrella can intervene on your behalf and work toward resolving these problems.

How quickly can most disputes be resolved?

Disputes, misunderstanding or miscommunication can lead to costly overruns and delayed or missed deadlines. At Canbrella we strive to prevent any disputes from arising by keeping all stakeholders advised during all phases of a project. In the event a dispute arises we will strive to come to a mutually agreeable solution in the shortest time possible. We have the expertise to manage and execute the signed contract between all stakeholders. If you have a dispute with a contractor and are bringing Canbrella on board to assist in resolving the issue we will also work toward a timely solution. In some cases this can be done within days, other more complicated issues may take longer.

What are my legal costs versus CANBRELLA’S fees?:

  1. The average cost of 1 hour of legal time is anywhere between $350 to $500
  2. Canbrella’s cost is $115 per hour
  3. On the average, the cost is $345 per contract 3 hours of time
  4. Receive what you paid for in a timely manner with satisfaction being the main goal without any legal issues, inconvenience and delays to principal party

Does Canbrella make decisions benefiting the property owner only?

No, both parties at the time of signing the building/renovation contract agreed that Canbrella will have the final say. Canbrella makes an independent decision based on what the issue(s) are.

How does the letter of credit work?

When a contractor is given a deposit to purchase material that is the intent. However, when a deposit is given to the contractor, the contractor is now in control of the project and your hard earned money. There is a payment schedule in the building/renovation contract that ensures the control of payment to the contractor by Canbrella for the material and future labour costs.

Why is it so important to have various insurance coverage?

It protects you completely from all types of liability. The most important is the WSIB coverage (Workplace Safety Insurance Board) this coverage protects the employer (which is you) from any liability pertaining to any injury or death sustained on your construction site. Liability insurance re: Builder/Renovator is required if his/her business is found legally responsible for injuries caused to another person or damage to your property. Automobile insurance is also required when an independent contractor working for you, is on your property. Canbrella ensures that liability insurance is up to date.

Those who hire contractors without confirming they have a valid clearance number also face serious fines and penalties
